What is DNS and DNS Cache? How DNS works?

DNS stands for Domain Name System. It converts the URL(Uniform Resource Locator) of your searched site into its equivalent (Internet Protocol) IP address.

All of us visit to our favorite sites by typing its web address like techvisitor.in in our search bar. But our browser doesn't understand this language, browser needs its IP address to open the site. When you type any site in browser, your browser sends request to Domain Name System. As Domain Name System gets the query from your browser, it finds the IP address of the URL of given site and then send back to browser.

DNS Cache (DNS resolver cache) is the memory of your DNS queries stored in your device. All the records of the websites visited by you are stored in DNS so that you will get quick response from the DNS next time you will browse the same site. As the DNS cache is stored in your device, we can easily locate and view it using command prompt. We can also clear the incognito history from here.
